2020 has arrived and in a short amount of time so much has changed. The lockdowns across the world have turned so many lives upside down. Everything from our daily routine, to our work and the way we spend our leisure time, are vastly different to what we once knew.
But with all of this, 2020 has brought with it, the atmosphere of resilience, daring and unity.
For many of us Change is not something we welcome... It's not just that we do not like change, it is that many of us fear change without even realising it. Studies have found that people genuinely believe (unconsciously) that change isn't just about embracing something new - it's about giving up something old. And we do not like to give things up.
But why give it up? Why not reinvent it, remodel it, or partner it... with new colour!
New colour! It is a universal theme for 2020 - the free use of colour around the house has never been so high. Designers, interior decorators, and influencers in creative circles are all talking about colour.
We have put together a list of the six most trending tones that you can use to add that “Wow!” to your home, garden, and wardrobe.
1. Apricot orange is back in town!
Apricot Orange. This orange is not as loud as a neon, but it is boisterous nonetheless—and especially good with greys and reds or a touch of turquoise, as seen on the Prada catwalk. You must google "Prada fern-embroidered coat" if you have not seen apricot and turquoise used together - it is a showstopper! Which brings us to beads...
Beads, Beads, Beads. The most genius way to add colour to any room or outfit. We have taken note, and we have a range of beautiful bracelets, necklaces, belts and more to give you that boost.
Just look at how these oranges stand out from the crowd...
2. White.
There is nothing quite as tasteful as white. It is the colour of the soaring clouds, fresh snow, and milk. White has been seen as the colour purity over many ages; worn by priestesses in in ancient Egypt and ancient Rome: worn as the royal colour of the kings of France: and more recently used widely in modern architecture as a symbol of modernity and simplicity.
This extraordinary colour, (or non-colour if you like) will add that special brilliance to any room because it reflects and scatters light.
Add it as a lamp, as a place mat or bowl - and breath new light into a dark corner of your bedroom or dining room.
Just look at how much illumination these white lamps, place mats and bowls give to his room...
3. Bold and Brilliant Reds
A voluptuous red introduces an upbeat energy into any wardrobe or space. Known for symbolising confidence and determination red is a must have for any occasion...
This hue will undoubtedly go with any shade of brown, blue and add pop to those natural colours around your house and closet.
We love red at Mohawk. Its not the typical colour that one would expect to find at the coast. But its one that we recommend because it stands out against the blue and green tones of the ocean and the bush.
No red can match Kenya’s “Maasai red” - it is undoubtably one of our favourites!
4. Terracotta camel
Tied to nature, this warm, earthy colour will bring the outdoors to you. Terracotta is Latin for "baked earth" or "clay", while camel is… camel colour! Here is a trend alert on terracotta camel - it’s a neutral colour to style, and it works so well with those "popping" colours - like red, orange, navy blue.
But best of all, Camel creates magic when it is matched with browns, off whites, olive greens and copper tones. At Mohawk Malindi have a wonderful selection on hand woven cushion covers, rattan baskets and trays that will bring these beautiful colours into your life
5. Green
Both ultramarine and fluoro greens are in. Ultra-marine blue is one of our favourites of this year. Its deep cooling blue green exudes self-assurance and adventure.
We have an array of these exciting greens to share with you in our shop. Ranging from fun recycled plastic flipflop animals, to intricately beaded place mats and handbags, to versatile & vibrant sarongs and scarfs.
6. Blue
No Monday blues here...blue is one of the most versatile colours used for decorating! We believe blues can be used in any social space like the living room, kitchen, veranda and even the bedroom. There are so many shades too - so do not limit yourself!
